Application fee instructions

You've been directed to this page via an email sent to you regarding the admissions application fee. We need further documentation or an application fee from you to process your application.

Find the scenario that fits your situation and read more about what is required of you.

Applicants to university studies in Sweden with Swedish citizenship, and most who have residency in Sweden, are not required to pay an application fee.

You've received an email from us because our electronic checks couldn't determine that you aren't required to pay a fee.

Please submit documentation of your citizenship or residency status by the deadline indicated for documenting fee-exempt status. If you fail to do so, your application will be considered late and only processed at the discretion of the university in question.

Make sure you created your account with your Swedish personal identity number

If you created your account using an email address but have a Swedish identity number (personnummer), it's impossible for the admissions system to find your citizenship/residency information electronically. Please contact University Admissions if you have a Swedish personal identity number but didn't use it to create your account. Do not create a new account.

If you're a Swedish citizen

You must document your citizenship status, as we were unable to verify it electronically.

For instructions on how to do this, see Document your citizenship EU/EEA

If you’re a Swedish resident

If you have one of the following types of residency, you must submit documents which show this. This is because our electronic checks have not been able to verify your status.

  • Swedish permanent residence permit
  • Swedish temporary residence permit granted for reasons other than studies (residence permits for studies do not give exemption from the application fee)
  • Expired Swedish temporary residence permit granted for reasons other than studies, but before your permit expired you had applied for an extension on the same grounds
  • Right of residence in Sweden as the family member of an EU/EEA citizen
  • Residence status as a British citizen who started living in Sweden on or before 31 December 2020 (or family member of such a British citizen)

Find out how you can provide the necessary documents to confirm your residency at Swedish personal ID, citizenship and residence permits. Follow the instructions for applicants who do not have a Swedish personal ID number.

You've received an email as a reminder that you're required to document your citizenship status.

If you've already submitted your documentation, you received the email because we haven't yet registered it. You don't need to do anything else – we'll register and review your documentation very soon.

If you've not yet documented your citizenship, we have a page with special instructions for you.

The application fee process

An application fee of 900 SEK (Swedish kronor) must be received by the deadline indicated on the 'Application fee' page, for your application to be processed. Any payments received after the deadline will result in your application status being changed to late. Late applications are only processed at the discretion of each university, if there are places available.
