Find the scenario that fits your situation and read more about what is required of you need to do regarding the application fee.

Applicants to university studies in Sweden with Swedish citizenship, permanent residency, or temporary residency granted for a reason other than studies are not required to pay an application fee.

You've received an email from us because our electronic checks couldn't determine that you aren't required to pay a fee.

Please submit documentation of your citizenship or residency status by the deadline indicated for documenting fee-exempt status. If you fail to do so, your application will be considered late and only processed at the discretion of the university in question.

Make sure you created your account with your Swedish identity number

If you created your account using an email address but have a Swedish identity number (personnummer), it's impossible for the system to find you. Please contact University Admissions if you have a Swedish identity number but didn't use it to create your account. Do not create a new account.

If you're a Swedish citizen

You must document your citizenship status, as we were unable verify it electronically.

For instructions on how to do this, see Document your citizenship EU/EEA

Am I eligible for a fee exemption?

  • If you have citizenship in a European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) country, or Switzerland, you aren't required to pay application or tuition fees.
  • Having temporary or permanent residency in an EU/EEA country does NOT exempt you from paying fees.
  • Citizens of EU candidate countries are not exempt and are required to pay fees.
  • Long-term residency status in an EU/EEA country can grant you exemption from fee payments but you must contact the Swedish Migration Agency to apply for a transfer of your status from the other country to Sweden.

The application fee process

An application fee of 900 SEK (Swedish kronor) must be received by the deadline indicated on the 'Application fee' page, for your application to be processed. Any payments received after the deadline will result in your application status being changed to late.
