Students who have a Swedish personal identity number (personnummer) will be checked electronically to determine if they are required to pay an application fee.

At the time of application, all Swedish personal identity numbers are checked with various databases to determine whether or not a student is exempt from paying an application fee. This electronic process is completed within a few days of submission of the admissions application.

Make sure you created your account with your Swedish identity number

If you created your account using an email address, it is impossible for the system to find you. Please contact University Admissions if you have a Swedish identity number (personnummer) but did not use it to create your account.

For students with Swedish citizenship living both in Sweden

The confirmation of your citizenship status will happen automatically via an electronic process. You do not need to send in any documentation.

Please note: It is possible that our electronic check will indicate that you are required to document your status. If this is the case, you will receive an email about this with instructions on how to proceed.

For Swedish citizens living abroad

Your citizenship status cannot be electronically confirmed as you do not have an officially registered residence in Sweden with the Swedish Tax Authority.

In order to document your citizenship status - and prove you do not need to pay the application fee - please upload a scan of your passport here at Universityadmissions.se. For the passport to be considered valid, your scan must reach us a maximum of 3 months after the expiration date has passed. (For example, if the last valid day is 5 May, your copy must reach us at the latest by 5 August.)

For students with Swedish permanent residency or temporary residency not granted for studies

The confirmation of your residency status will happen automatically via an electronic process. You do not need to send in any documentation.

Please note: It is possible that our electronic check will indicate that you are required to document your status. If this is the case, you will receive an email about this with instructions on how to proceed.

For students with a Swedish personal identity number who are not Swedish citizens and do not have permanent residency or temporary residency not granted for studies

In order for you to be exempt from paying an application fee (if required), you will need to fulfill one of the other criteria as indicated under 'General criteria'. If you do not fulfill any of the general criteria, you must pay the application fee.
