If you applied for a scholarship offered by the Swedish Institute, there are some things you should consider when you receive your admissions results.

In order to help you with the next step, we've presented 4 students who applied for an SI Scholarship and received different admissions results. Read more about them below.

Maria

Maria applied to 3 Master’s programmes. She also applied for a Swedish Institute scholarship for each of the programmes. She received her admissions notification with the following results:

 Master's Programme in Economics

 Stockholm University

 Accepted

 Master’s Programme in Business Administration

 Mälardalen University

 Deleted

 Master’s Programme in Applied Science

 Malmö University

 Deleted

Maria was offered a place in her first choice. As you can only be offered a place in one Master’s programme, her lower-ranked choices have been deleted. Maria will be considered for an SI Scholarship for the Master’s Programme in Economics at Stockholm University. She will receive a notification from SI if she is awarded a scholarship.

David

David applied to 4 Master’s programmes. He also applied for a Swedish Institute scholarship for each of the programmes. He received his admissions notification with the following results:

 Master’s Programme in Science

 Jönköping University

 Deleted

 Master’s Programme in Science

 Chalmers University of Technology

 Reserve

 Master’s Programme in Agriculture

 Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

 Reserve

 Master’s Programme in Molecular Science

 KTH Royal Institute of Technology

 Deleted

David hasn’t been offered a place in a Master’s programme, though he has been placed on reserve (Waiting list) for two programmes. David will not be considered for an SI Scholarship, as only applicants who are offered a place in a programme directly after selection are considered.

It’s possible that David could be offered a place from the waiting list for one of his reserve choices. However, he will not then be considered for the scholarship.

Ling

Ling applied to 3 Master’s programmes. She also applied for a Swedish Institute scholarship for each of the programmes. Ling is counting on an SI scholarship in order to be able to attend a university in Sweden. She hasn’t applied for other scholarships. She received her admissions notification with the following results:

 Master’s in European Affairs

 Lund University

 Reserve

 Master’s in Marketing and Consumption

 Gothenburg University

 Deleted

 Master’s in Earth Science

 Umeå University

 Accepted

Ling was offered a place in her third choice, and has been placed on reserve (waiting list) for her first choice. Applicants can only be considered for an SI Scholarship for programmes they have been accepted to (offered a place in) on the first notification of selection results. Therefore, Ling will only be considered for an SI scholarship for the Master’s in Earth Science Programme at Umeå University.

Because Ling is only interested in coming to Sweden if she receives a scholarship, and because she hasn’t applied for other scholarships, Ling should decline her reserve spot. In that way, she will let the university know she doesn’t wish to be considered for a place as she will not be attending.

Hakim

Hakim applied to 4 Master’s programmes. He applied for an SI Scholarship for each of them. Hakim really wants to study in Sweden and is planning on attending a university there even if he doesn’t receive a scholarship. His admissions notification had the following results:

 Master’s in Applied Biotechnology

 Uppsala University

 Deleted

 Master’s in Communication Engineering

 Chalmers University of Technology

 Reserve

 Master’s in Composite Materials

 Luleå University

 Deleted

 Master’s in Geomatics

 University of Gävle

 Accepted

Hakim was offered a place in his fourth choice and will be considered for a SI Scholarship for only this Master’s programme at University of Gävle. Hakim is still interested in the Master’s programme he’s on the waiting list for (reserve) at Chalmers, although he will not be considered for an SI scholarship for this programme. Because Hakim is planning on attending a university in Sweden, he should wait to hear from the Swedish Institute before making any decisions.

If he receives a scholarship from SI for the Master’s programme at University of Gävle, he should then decide if he wants to wait and see if Chalmers makes him an offer. If he wants the scholarship, he should decline his reserve place at Chalmers. If he is offered a place at Chalmers and prefers to accept this offer, he should decline his SI scholarship offer. In that way, the scholarship can be made available for other students.

It is possible that Hakim isn't awarded an SI Scholarship. In that case, he always has his place at University of Gävle. He can then wait to see if a place becomes available at Chalmers. What is important is that he lets Gävle and Chalmers know when he’s made his decision. In that way, places can be made available for other interested students.
